GOALS Haiti uses soccer to engage youth in community work and education to improve quality of life today, develop new leaders for tomorrow and empower them to make long-term changes.
GOALS works hard to promote sport, health, nutrition, sanitation, gender equality and education. Their programs include local soccer teams, summer camps, community events, health, education and high school scholarships. Their after-school program draws about 175-200 children a day, boys and girls aged 10-18.
GOALS also creates jobs for local residents and teaches professional skills. 18 of 19 staff members are Haitian and work as coordinators in their rural hometowns.
Recent projects developed and led by GOALS trained, local staff include building a new soccer field, improving a public meeting area using recycled materials, construction of over 205 storm shelters, and assisting 50 families in starting their own vegetable gardens.
GOALS is unique in achieving long-term sustainable impact by emphasizing local capacity and youth leadership.
