Soccer Without Borders Uganda creates avenues to growth, inclusion, and personal success for more than 350 urban refugees in Kampala. Due to continued violence and unrest in neighboring countries, the refugee population in Kampala has increased significantly in recent years.
The majority of our participants are unable to attend Ugandan school due to financial, language, and cultural barriers as newcomers to the country, leaving a significant portion of their day open, with few positive outlets to fill the time.
At SWB, participants find a safe space to grow and learn, connecting to social and educational support systems in addition to athletic opportunities.
Our program directly implements 6 hours of activities daily, providing English classes, skill-building workshops, soccer games and practices, team-building activities, and scholarship opportunities to young people ages 7-20.
Soccer Without Borders is the only program to offer these services and to fill this need for refugees living in the communities of Nsambya and Katwe in Kampala.
